Cryptographic File Systems

Hula Guys….I’m back with yet another topic on cryptography. This time, it’s cryptographic file systems. Securing data is more important than ever. As the Internet has become more pervasive, security attacks have grown. Widely-available studies report millions of dollars of lost revenues due to security breaches. As security becomes a greater focus in networks, every aspect of online information needs a level of protection from the network-level use of firewalls and IDS to the host-level use of IDS. But these days, an additional level of security has come on the forefront of information security field. Cryptographic File Systems.

New Tool For Attack On Gmail, Facebook

Hi All !

I was browsing the net and stumbled across this article on ZDNet. Researchers have come across an open source tool that is capable of launching automated man-in-middle attacks against popular sites such as Gmail and Facebook. This tool, Middler, is designed to target users who access services via public networks in hotels, coffee shops and aeroplanes. Besides launching man-in-the-middle attacks, in which communications are intercepted so the attacker can pass his own data between the website and the client device, the tool can also compromise computers and even iPhones via their software-update mechanisms.

The tool is intended to demonstrate a particular weakness found in many popular online applications — the use of clear-text HTTP transmissions for much of the user session.

The Dark Internet

Hey there !

I’m back with a new topic yet again. Today I’ll be discussing what is known as the “Dark Internet” of the “Invisible Web”… Many of you might wonder what is this all about. well then folks, read on………………….

Almost all of us are quite familiar with the term www or the World Wide Web. There are millions of web sites on the Internet that fulfill your search criteria. Say for example, if I want to see how many sites are related to information technology, then I would simply open any of the popular web search engines (Google, Yahoo, Altavista and there are a lot more !), and give my search string and the search engine gives me a long list of all websites related to information technology.

Four Major Sites Vulnerable To CSRF !

Four leading websites were or are vulnerable to Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attack according to Princeton University researchers. While ING Direct, YouTube and Metafilter have taken action to address the cross-site-request-forgery (CSRF) vulnerabilities, the fourth site, belonging to The New York Times, has not been fixed !

CSRF flaws can be exploited so a user’s browser is hijacked during a session and used to access a secure target site. As web authentication normally relies on cookies containing a pseudo-random session identifier, attributed to a browser at the beginning of a session, a hacker can perform actions normally restricted to the user if that browser is hijacked during the session

Encrypted Voice … !!!

Hey There !

Welcome back to read my post. Today I was trying to read a mail that one of my friends had sent me yesterday. The email was encrypted with a very well known encryption. — PGP. Those who know this terminology, are well aware of what PGP is. However, let me explain in brief to those who are unaware of PGP. PGP or Pretty Good Privacy, is an encryption standard that is widely used for encrypting your emails. Such that only the sender and receiver knows the content inside the mail. Even if the mail is sniffed on its way from source to destination, its contents could not be read.

Thanks to the technology of asymmetric cryptography, where a message is encrypted with receiver’s public key, sent to the destination, and the receiver then decrypts it with his private key. This, and many more ways exists to encrypt the text messages across Internet.
